The body of a missing miraa trader in Thiba, Mwea, has been found buried in a shallow grave under her bed.
Joyce Nginya's murder was unearthed on Thursday after her children and sister, Jane Njeru, raised the alarm over her whereabouts. Nginya went missing on Sunday.
She reportedly separated from her husband in 2011 and was in a relationship with another man who is considered a person of interest in her murder. The alleged lover has since gone into hiding.
Confirming the incident, Mwea West Deputy Police Commander Sammy Beauttah said a manhunt for the suspect is underway.
"We visited the home and discovered a shallow grave that was under the bed and found her body buried," said Beauttah.
Elsewhere, the body of an unidentified woman was found dumped at the border of Kirinyaga and Embu counties.
The woman's hands were chopped off, her eyes gouged out, and her face was disfigured after being doused with acid.
Police have launched investigations into the murder and are also trying to identify the woman.
