Two women suspected to be cattle rustlers were shot along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
The two, who are admitted at Naivasha sub-County Hospital, were shot on Tuesday night.
It happened when the driver of a vehicle that was ferrying stolen livestock failed to stop at a roadblock along the highway.
During the incident, police officers arrested the driver of the car and recovered some of the stolen livestock that was being transported from Maella.
This was the third vehicle to be intercepted in Naivasha by the police and the public in the last two months while ferrying stolen livestock.
In the latest incident, the rustlers had stolen livestock in Maella and were on their way to Naivasha when the police officers were alerted.
A witness, Amos Waithaka, said the officers laid an ambush near Delamere farm at midnight.
He said when flagged down to stop, the driver defied the orders and nearly knocked down two of the police officers forcing them to open fire.
"The officers were trying to deflate the tyres but in the process, the two women in the car were injured," he said.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru said the two women were recuperating in the hospital under police guard.
He said that they suspected that the group was behind a series of cattle rustling cases in some of the estates around Naivasha.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating an incident where the body of a middle-aged man was found on the shores of Lake Naivasha.
It's suspected that the man was killed elsewhere and the body was dumped near Central landing beach, a few kilometres from Naivasha town.
The OCPD said the body, which had a deep wound in the back of the head, was taken to the Naivasha sub-County Hospital mortuary.
"The body did not have identification documents but officers have taken fingerprints as part of their investigations," he said.
