Governor Kenneth Lusaka embarks on plan to decongest Bungoma referral hospital

Bungoma County government has embarked on a plan to ease congestion in public health facilities in the county.

Governor Kenneth Lusaka said the county government is seeking partnerships with actors in the health sector to expand bed capacity at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital and other sub-county hospitals.

"My administration will embrace a public-private-partnership approach in implementing the programme," said Lusaka after meeting a delegation from Amref Health Africa in Bungoma town yesterday.

Amref Health Africa is undertaking a project with the county government under the Partnership for Primary Care (P4PC) programme to enhance the quality of healthcare services at ward level.

The P4PC model was piloted in Makueni and Migori counties in 2018, with Bungoma becoming the third county to benefit from the initiative.

Elsewhere, the Bungoma county government is seeking partnership with Kibabii University in areas of agriculture and youth empowerment.

In a consultative meeting with the institution's top management on Thursday, October 21, Governor Lusaka urged the university to take the lead in agriculture innovations to help residents realise food security.

Kibabii University Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of administration, finance and development, Prof Donald Siamba, said the university was partnering with a Norwegian agency in a mushroom farming project targeting locals.
