Machakos County government has launched a 3,000-kilometer road project.

Presiding over the project dubbed "Barabara Mashinani" Governor Wavinya Ndeti flanked by her deputy Francis Mwangangi, gave out graders to all the eight sub-counties to prepare roads before rains start.

The governor, who also released five shovel loaders to excavate dams, said the county is working in partnership with the National Youth Service (NYS) in the project.

She said the pathetic condition of the rural roads at present would be a thing of the past owing to the collective initiative of the NYS tax and her government.

The governor called upon the residents of the county who are the beneficiaries of the project to cooperate with the county workers on the ground. She also called on the MCAs in the 40 wards to ensure the work on the ground was properly done. After the launch, the governor proceeded to Mwala sub-county where she witnessed the grading of the roads in Wamunyu ward.

"It is from this collective partnership that we shall take the county to great heights of development," she said, adding that the work on the roads should be completed before rains start.

The deputy governor proceeded to Kathiani sub-county where he also witnessed the grading of some roads. Mwangangi called on the locals to support the new government for development.
