Gender-based violence during the election period (1st -15th August, 2022)

  • 157: Cases reported in 15 days with 8 being reported on election day alone
  • 67% of cases reported before elections were verbal abuses, verbal abuses dropped to 45% after elections
  • Cyber bullying cases stood at 21% before elections and 13% after elections
  • Cases of assault before elections were at 4% compared to 7% after elections
  • 3%: Organised crime cases before elections, stood at 9% after elections
  • Other crimes after elections were reported at 14%

Type of ESGBV cases reported a week to elections

  • Online meetings reported the highest number of EGBV at 60% one week to elections, dropped to 37% post elections
  • Other meetings reported 24% of EGBV 7 days to elections, rose to 27% post elections
  • Political rallies reported 16% of EGBV one week to elections
  • Official government functions reported 23% of EGBV after elections

  • 8 SGBV cases
  • Verbal Abuse/hate speech against women recorded the highest of 3 cases
  • 2 assault cases
  • 2 sexual harassment cases
  • 1 case of cyberbullying reported

  • Online meetings the most used platform for abuses at 50%
  • Official government functions second most used platform for abuses at 40%
  • Political gatherings recorded only 1 case to represent 10% of the cases.
