David Mwalika of Wiper Party has retained his Kitui Rural parliamentary seat.
Mwalika defeated Charles Nyamai of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party.
Mwalika got 19,745 votes against Nyamai's 10,177 votes in the elections held on Monday, August 29, 2022.
The results were released a few minutes past 2am on Tuesday, August 30.
The voter turn-out in the MP election was 54.71 per cent.
Thirty thousand and eighty-nine (30,089) voters participated in the polls out 55,000 registered voters.
Speaking shortly after being declared the winner, David Mwalika said he was grateful to his party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for trusting him with Wiper ticket in the polls.
"I'd like to thank my party leader [Kalonzo Musyoka] for asking all the MPs elected on Wiper Party ticket to rally behind me during the campaigns. I pledge to serve the constituents of Kitui Rural better than I did during my first term as MP between August 2017 and August 2022," said Mwalika.
Mwalika first joined the National Assembly as MP for Kitui Rural on a Chama Cha Uzalendo ticket.
