A two-year-old girl is nursing burn wounds at the Kenyatta National Hospital, after a failed arson attempt by her father at Nasra Estate, Njiru sub county, Nairobi.

The incident happened on Sunday, August 21 afternoon.

Police say the girl was saved by onlookers from the vehicle after the father set it on fire.

The father, 34-year-old Dennis Musyoka, later died in the unfortunate fire incident.

"It was established that the deceased had requested his Ex-wife, Elizabeth Munyalo to bring her daughter so that they could bond with her. The lady arrived with the daughter in her motor vehicle (KDE 438R - a Honda Vezel black in color). The father then joined them in the said car," a police officer at Soweto Police Station told The Standard.

Shortly before succumbing, Musyoka pulled out a knife from his bag and stabbed his ex-wife four times on the left side of the neck.

Elizabeth Munyalo managed to escape from the vehicle and rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital with the help of good Samaritans.

She is admitted to the hospital in a stable condition.

"He set himself on fire in the said vehicle together with the daughter identified as Kelsey Mutheu. It is alleged that the couple had separated for some time over domestic issues," police said.

A knife and a partly burnt five-liter jerry can plastic suspected to have contained petrol have been recovered from the scene.

The body has been moved to Mama Lucy Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy.
