Machakos Governor-elect Wavinya Ndeti faces a tough task of improving service delivery in the health sector.

Wavinya has to grapple with restoring the supply of drugs and other essentials as well as ensuring there are adequate health workers.

During her campaigns, Wavinya pledged to ensure all public health institutions receive enough drugs and essential medical supplies.

"In my first 100 days in office, I will restore order and proper functionality of all healthcare facilities by ensuring regular supply of medicine and adequate healthcare workers," Wavinya said.

On August 17, Deputy Governor-elect Francis Mwangangi reiterated their commitment, terming it a top-priority once they are sworn into office.

"The governor and I still remain committed to restoring order in the health sector by resuscitating services in all public institutions which have literally collapsed," Mwangangi told The Standard.

He said the next critical step was to boost the county workforce, which he termed as important in the actualisation of their promises.

"During our campaigns, governor Wavinya met and assured the county government workers of her support. We are firmly pursuing this course because we believe the county workforce is key in the realisation of our targets as government," said Mwangangi.

Many Machakos residents are upbeat about the new administration, saying it could enjoy the support of the county assembly unlike the previous regime.

Out of the 40 wards, Wiper and Maendeleo Chap Chap parties got 16 and 12 elective seats respectively.

"Wavinya's government is likely to enjoy a cordial working relationship with the county assembly going by the number of MCAs elected on Maendeleo Chap Chap and Wiper tickets. There is no longer bad blood between the two parties," said Joram Muema, a Kangundo resident.

Machakos Senator-elect Agnes Kavindu also exuded confidence that the new county government will deliver the expectations of Machakos residents.

"We thank the people of Machakos for believing in us. I want to assure them as their senator that we will not let them down. We will ensure everything is done for the benefit of Machakos residents," said Kavindu.
