Police in Homa Bay County are holding a man who tried to sneak into the tallying centre of Kasipul Kabondo constituency at Ringa Boys High School with a gun.
The incident was reported at the Ringa Police Station in Rachunyo sub-county after the suspect, Dennis Onyango Muni, failed to identify himself with proper documentation at the main entrance, in accordance with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) requirements for anyone to access tallying centres.
"The suspect was with his accomplice and introduced themselves to the officers at the gate as security and a chief agent of one of the Kabondo West Ward MCA candidate Peter Nyakomita," the police statement read in part.
During the screening, the guy who had introduced himself as security resisted and ran away towards Ringa Market prompting the guards to give a chase.
They eventually caught up with him as he attempted to lock himself up in a pit latrine. However, they discovered that he had removed his jacket.
Acting on suspicion, the officers sought the services of an exhauster vehicle from Oyugis town and they managed to recover a homemade gun from the pockets of the man's jacket.
"We have the suspect in custody as we analyse his motives at the polling station," the statement ended.
