The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has ordered Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa to surrender before authorities and assist with investigations into a shooting incident yesterday.
Barasa is wanted over the alleged killing of his opponent's aide at a polling station in Bungoma County on Tuesday, August 9.
"Mr. Barasa who is the incumbent MP, Kimilili Constituency, was reported to have shot and killed Brian Olunga, on August 9, 2022 at Chebukwabi polling station," Haji said.
According to police, the lawmaker is still at large and his phone switched off since the incident.
A police excerpt seen by The Standard alleged the lawmaker approached his opponent, who was on his way out, in the company of four others.
It alleged Barasa warned his opponent, DAP- Kenya candidate Brian Khaemba, against leaving the premises. This was shortly after he decided to leave the location.
When his driver started the car's engine, the MP withdrew a gun and shot one of his opponent's aides on the forehead, the report said.
