Police have raided a bungalow in Eldoret’s Elgon View estate and found bhang worth over Sh1 million being grown in a makeshift greenhouse.

The officers, accompanied by area chief Sammy Meli raided the bungalow on Tuesday night and found several cannabis plants inside the six-bedroom house.

In a police report seen by The Standard, 21 cannabis plants were found in the main bedroom, 68 plants in the living room, and another 14 plants at the dining area.

Another 26 cannabis plants were found inside an adjacent iron-walled house inside the compound.

Police said that the house had been converted into a greenhouse to cultivate the prohibited plants in one of the posh estates in the town.

During the sting operation, the officers recovered documents belonging to one man, name withheld, who they consider to be the main suspect.

Among the documents are a KCSE certificate, national identity card, university clearance report, and payment slip for some chemicals.

“All plants have been uprooted after having been documented by CSI Eldoret. The total weight of the plants is 33.5 Kg with a street value of Sh1,005,000,” police said.

A manhunt for the suspect has since been launched.
