Former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo protested an attack on his convoy during an Azimio rally in Bondo at the weekend.

Mr Gumbo, who is eyeing the Siaya governor seat on a UDM ticket, was barred from accessing Raila by rowdy youths who pelted his motorcade with stones.

Several vehicles were destroyed in the process as Gumbo and his running mate David Ohito sought to access Bondo Primary School where the rally presided over by presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga was taking place.

According to Mr Ohito, their vehicles were pelted with stones and three of their supporters sustained head injuries.

Ohito, who condemned the Saturday incident, said they were aware of those behind the violence.

“Attempts to intimidate us using violence will not work and we’re going to ensure that we deliver Siaya 100 per cent,” he added.

Ohito said they would defeat their main rival James Orengo of ODM.

The incident comes a few days after Gumbo raised concern over alleged intimidation by ODM candidates.

Speaking during a press conference at his home in Rarieda, Gumbo said there have been attempts by ODM candidates to frustrate him and his supporters.

“We’re all in Azimio and our presidential candidate is Raila. We shouldn’t be treated as outsiders,” said Gumbo, adding that their main agenda in Azimio is to deliver votes to Raila.

They described the move to block them from attending rallies as unfortunate.
