KCSE 2021: Results of 441 candidates cancelled due to cheating

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha on Saturday cancelled the results of 441 KCSE 2021 candidates due to exam irregularities.

Out of that number, 203 were found to have unauthorised materials during the exams, 203 were found with mobile phones and eight were found to have impersonated candidates.

Other cases were collusion (6) and causing a disturbance at the examination room (1).

Magoha said ahead of the 2021 KCSE exams, the Government heightened measures meant to pre-empt any forms of cheating through the combined efforts of all the members of the Multi-Agency Team.

The Cs said the result of this enhanced vigilance was that nearly all the cases of cheating that would have occurred were prevented.

"The country would bear me witness that many mobile phones that would have been used to relay preexposed examination materials were confiscated before they could be used," he said.

"I wish to categorically state that KNEC will not have any mercy on examination offenders who must be dealt with decisively."

Magoha on Saturday announced the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education results where a total of 826, 807 students sat for the 2021 KCSE exams compared to 747,161 candidates in 2020.

This represented an increase of 79,646 candidates (10.66%).
