Four, including teenagers from initiation, die in Njoro crash

Four people, including two teenagers heading home from initiation ceremony in Njoro, Nakuru County, died on Saturday morning, March 26 after their vehicle rolled on the Njoro-Mau Narok Road.

Police said three died on the spot, while one died while receiving treatment in hospital.

One survivor is recuperating at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.

Njoro Sub-County Deputy Police Commander Lawrence Nalo told The Standard that the personal car in which the victims were travelling, in knocked down a pedestrian and, thereafter, careened off the road.

The vehicle rolled several times, resulting in the three instant deaths. The hit pedestrian was among the three who died at the scene.

“The accident occurred at Ndeffo area on Njoro-Mau Narok Road,” said Nalo.

Two of the three occupants of the car, were teenagers heading home from an initiation ceremony. The teenagers had completed a 12-day initiation programme at the Kahiriga Kikuyu Shrine in Ndeffo, Njoro Sub-County.

The deceased, including the driver of the private vehicle, were moved to Nakuru Level Five Hospital morgue. The mangled wreckage of their car was towed to Njoro Police Station.

“The driver, who died, was the father of one of the deceased initiates,” said area deputy police boss Nalo.

Sixty-six (66) initiates had undergone circumcision according to Kikuyu customs at the Kahiriga Shrine. The exercise lasted almost two weeks.

Police are trying to trace the family of the sole survivor, who is still unconscious in hospital.
