Police in Bomet County have launched investigations into an alleged murder and attempted suicide incident involving a police officer in Mauche estate within Bomet Township.

A police report filed by the area chief at Bomet Police Station on Sunday, March 13 at 8 pm indicated that the officer was in an argument with his 25-year-old wife.

“He (Gilbert Langat) picked a quarrel with his wife madam Faith Chepkoech about 25 years old and while in their house, the husband stabbed his wife with a Maasai sword three times in her chest,” an excerpt of the police report read.

Police say that the wife unsuccessfully tried to escape before she fell at the estate’s entrance and died.

“The assailant on seeing the dead wife tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself with the same sword on the stomach,” police say.

Officers who visited the scene rushed the suspect to Tenwek Mission Hospital for medical attention.

The body has been moved to Longisa Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Investigations are underway.
