The Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) will host its National Delegates Conference on Sunday at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi.
Speaking at the party headquarters in Nairobi, officials also promised a major declaration that will alter the country’s political landscape.
“It’s not going to be business as usual. We want to change the way politics is done in the country,” said DP Secretary-General Jacob Hajji.
The party is expected to endorse Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi as the party's presidential flagbearer at the convention.
The convention comes days after Muturi promised to launch an extensive presidential campaign after endorsement by over 1,000 delegates.
“Once I am endorsed by the Democratic Party as the presidential candidate, the Mt Kenya snow will melt. We will generate campaign heat never seen in the region before,” said Muturi.
DP was founded in 1991 by former President Mwai Kibaki and John Keen upon the repealing of Section 2A of the Constitution.
