Potter House outshine opponents at national gala in Mombasa

Nairobi’s Potterhouse School Runda produced impressive performance to emerge the overall winners of the third edition of the Kenya Private and International Schools Sports Association swimming gala.

During the one-day swimming meet held over the weekend at the Oshwal Academy Mombasa, Potterhouse, led by sensational swimmers Naisola Gweth and Maliah Kameta, dethroned former champions Oshwal Academy to bag 430.50 points for the overall title.

Coached by Shadrack Mutiso, Potterhouse, who dominated most of the races, had a total of 60 medals that included 21 gold, 21 silver and 18 bronze.

Riara Primary School,  also from Nairobi, finished second with 322.50 points and 40 medals, while Mombasa’s MM-MV Shah Academy, led by Tracy Onsarigo, were third with 252 points and 30 medals.

Aga Khan Primary Mombasa were fourth with 244 points, while St Christopher’s School Nanyuki had 165 points.

Riara International School completed the list of the top six teams with 118 points.

In the boys’ category, Aga Khan Primary School topped with 172 points with 28 medals, while MM-MV Shah Academy had 148 points and 19 medals for the second slot. Riara Primary School completed the list of the top three with 126 points and 17 medals.

In the girls’ division, Potterhouse were unstoppable after they bagged 305.50 points with 43 medals.

Riara Primary School had 196 points and 21 medals for the second spot, while MM-MV Shah Academy were third with 104 points that included 12 medals.

Coach Mutiso, said the event also contributed to sports tourism in the region after over 500 swimmers from Nairobi, Kilifi, Nanyuki took part.

“The event provided an opportunity for the swimmers to interact and nurture their talents,” said Mutiso after leading his swimmers to victory.
