Prof Joseph Chacha has been appointed Maasai Mara University acting vice-chancellor.

Prof Chacha takes over from Prof Kitche Magak whose two-year term as acting VC ended.

Addressing staff after he took over, Prof Chacha pledged to work with the staff and address pertinent challenges facing the institution.

“I was the pioneer of this university and it feels great to be back here. I promise to create a leadership system that will ensure teamwork with all the staff, both academic and non-teaching staff.

“We need to redeem the image of this great university,” said Prof Chacha.

His coming to the university was welcomed by university unionists.

Led by Kenya University Staff Union (KUSU) branch secretary Galfen Omuse, Chapter Secretary Bonface Isalambo and chairman Dr Wesley Omwoyo welcomed the new VC.

“As unionists representing workers at Maasai Mara University, we welcome the new VC. He was here before and we have hope in him.

“We are ready to cooperate with him to ensure he takes over leadership and takes this institution to the next level,” said Omuse.

Isalambo, on his part, exuded confidence that the new VC will bring industrial harmony that he said had been missing in the previous administration.

“We (unionists) have been receiving show-cause letters anytime we fight for the rights of our members. We hope that industrial harmony will be back,” he added.

Prof Chacha previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor Partnership, Research and Innovations at Maseno University.
