Newly appointed Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mohamed Maalim has promised to put peace restoration in the volatile Kerio Valley top of his priority
Mr Maalim spoke at the regional headquarters in Nakuru yesterday when he officially took over office from his predecessor George Natembeya. Mr Natembeya resigned last week to vie for Trans Nzoia governorship.
“Rift Valley has its own challenges and I have confidence that I will lead the rest of the Government officers in bringing the desired change. Kerio Valley will a priority,” said Maalim.
He tasked the county commissioners for Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo and West Pokot under whose jurisdiction is Kerio Valley to engage the local communities more to foster stability.
“The insecurity challenges we are facing in Kerio Valley can only be solved largely through the commitment of the local communities to live in harmony. Plans for joint meetings bringing together residents of these three counties begin immediately,” said Maalim.
“It is heartbreaking to be issuing statements of how people have been killed,” he said.
