Suspected serial conman denies Sh3.3m fraud, impersonation claims in Nakuru

A suspected serial conman who allegedly masqueraded as a magistrate and collected Sh3.3 million by false pretense has been charged in a Nakuru court.

Vincent Kiprono Ng’eno and his wife Mercy Chepkirui denied eight counts of obtaining Sh3,269,230 by false pretense when they appeared before Nakuru Principal Magistrate Isaac Orenge.

Kiprono denied an alternative charge of impersonation.

The two denied defrauding Samuel Soi Sh1,564,230 between March 15, 2018, and December 31, 2019, by falsely pretending they were relatives to Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter and would offer Soi a job in Kenya Pipeline Company in Nakuru.

The two further allegedly obtained Sh150,000 from Jepngeno Kipkirui on dates between October 1, 2018, and December 31, 2019, by pretending they were in a position to help Kipkirui’s brother Kirui Walter get employed as a court clerk.

Kiprono allegedly posed as a magistrate stationed in a Nakuru court.

They also denied obtaining Sh65,000 from James Mburu on August 10, 2018, and September 1, 2018.
