Matungulu night attack by gang leaves one dead, another hospitalised

A gang of about 30 armed men raided a local bar at Mukalwa shopping center in Matungulu sub-county on Saturday night where they attacked and seriously injured revellers, leaving one person dead.

Another victim is fighting for his life at Kangundo level 4 hospital after sustaining serious injuries inflicted by the assailants who stormed the village liquor joint at night.

According to senior assistant chief of Sengani sub-location, Catherine Mwikali, the gang leader, who is an ex-convict at Kamiti maximum security prison, is among five suspects who were rounded up and arrested by police in Tala following the early morning operation.

The suspects were booked in Tala police station through OB number 5/30/5/2021. The motive of the attack was not immediately established.

The chief said the suspects will be processed for criminal charges once police complete the investigation.

The deceased's body was removed to Kangundo hospital mortuary.
