Kabuchai by-election: Police arrest Nandi Senator Cherargei, three MPs over alleged violence

Police in Bungoma County have arrested four leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto while overseeing the Kabuchai by-elections.

They are Senator Samson Cherargei (Nandi), MPs Didmas Barasa (Kimilili), Wilson Logo (Chesumei) and Nelson Koech (Belgut constituency).

The leaders are said to be supporting the election of UDA candidate Evans Kalasinga.

The four are currently being processed at Bungoma County Police headquarters.

According to the police, the lawmakers were arrested for allegedly being in possession of illegal firearms and causing violence in the Kabuchai by-elections.

"You can't change the will of Kabuchai people by arresting us. They have already made up their minds and what the police are doing is an exercise in futility," Barasa said during an exchange with the police.

Police also turned away journalists covering the event.

Bungoma County Police Commander Dr Musyoki Mutungi is yet to comment on the matter.

Earlier, nominated Senator Millicent Omanga was roughed up by youths in the morning at Busakala Primary School polling station.

Omanga reported the matter at Chwele Police Station.
