President Zewde arrived at Melchior Ndadaye International Airport and was received by Ndayishimiye together with other senior government officials, including the Burundian Foreign Affairs Minister Albert Shingiro.
In a joint-press briefing, President Sahle-Work Zewde said she was honored to visit Burundi as the Ethiopian Head of State.
According to a statement released by the Presidency, the visit by President Zewde will offer the two Heads of State an opportunity to explore and strengthen bilateral relations.
She further added that Ethiopia is committed and ready to strengthen relations between the two states.
President Zedwe’s visit comes at a time when Burundi continues to open to the world under the administration of President Evariste Ndayishimiye, who came into office in June last year.
The Ethiopian Head of State is scheduled to visit Burundi’s organo-mineral fertilizer plant (FOMI) today before her departure to Addis Ababa later.
The fertilizer plant is the first-ever local factory of Organo-Mineral Industrial fertilizers in Burundi and targets on increasing food security in the East African country.
