Two people lost their lives in a road accident after a motorcyclist carrying a pillion passenger rammed into a stationary tractor belonging to West Kenya Sugar Company at Bahai in Kimilili sub-county, Bungoma County.
Kimilili OCPD Stephen Muoni said that the cyclist and the pillion passenger died on the spot at 7.30 pm due to the impact of hitting the trailer.
"The motorcyclist was carrying a pillion passenger towards the Misikhu direction. On reaching Bahai, the motorcyclist rammed into the rear side of the stationary tractor packed on the roadside and both the cyclist and pillion passenger died on the spot due to the impact of ramming into the stationary trailer," stated Muoni.
The male pillion passenger is said to be a teacher at Kimilili Boys High School according to an eyewitness Stephen Kololi. However, the OCPD said that the two bodies have not yet been identified.
"I cannot tell what happened but the motorbike rider was at a high speed, he hit the tractor from the back dying on the spot, "Kololi stated.
Muoni said that the bodies of the deceased are preserved at Dreamland Hospital Mortuary in Kimilili awaiting postmortem and identification.
"We implore motorists to be cautious during this festive season for we do not want to lose more lives as a result of reckless driving," he cautioned.
Last week, Bungoma County Samuel Kimiti cautioned motorists from speeding especially during the Christmas festive season.
He urged road users to observe traffic rules to reduce road carnage.
