Kenya Films Board withdraws case against Ohangla musician

Ohangla musician George Adinda, also known as Otieno Aloka, has been pardoned by the Kenya Film Classifications Board (KFCB).

The board, in a letter addressed to Kisumu’s Director of Criminal Investigations, withdrew complaints lodged against the singer who is out on cash bail awaiting his arraignment in court on Monday.

Adinda was summoned by detectives and officials of the KFCB over a song that is demeaning to women.

On Friday, officials from the board led by Nyanza regional director Edward Koech promised that stern action would be taken against the singer whose song has vulgar lyrics.

Adinda faces charges which include distributing and exhibiting unclassified content prior to classification, displaying obscene audio-visual content and filming without a licence.

Song X-rated

Kisumu County Commander Ranson Lolmodon, while confirming his arrest last week, stated that Adinda’s song was X-rated.

Previously, the board’s CEO Ezekiel Mutua criticised the song and said KFCB will ensure the artiste is brought to book.

Mutua claimed Adinda had violated the provisions of the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 in respect to content creation regulations.

Yesterday, a letter from the board’s chief executive's office declared its intention to withdraw complaints it had filed against the artiste.

The board stated that it did not wish to proceed with the case in court but instead wished to seek an alternative means of resolving the matter.
