Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman on Thursday urged Kenyans to avoid
processed foods and focus on eating a balanced diet daily to boost immunity.
Speaking during the daily COVID-19 update, Dr Aman said most
processed foods have high amounts of unhealthy fats that may leave one
vulnerable to viruses and other ailments.
“I urge all of us to adopt healthy lifestyles by reducing
consumption of highly refined processed foods, sweets, sugar-sweetened and
flavored drinks or beverages which all have high amounts of unhealthy fats,
sugar and salt,” he said.
Dr Aman said the famous combination of Ugali and Sukumawiki is good but additions such as
omena and a fruit would go a long way
in ensuring one has had a balanced diet.
Elsewhere, Transport CS James Macharia spoke on the
resumption of International flights saying a number of measures had been put in
place to ensure the safety of passengers.
Passengers from the following countries will be allowed into
the country due to the fact that Covid-19 cases are on a decline; China, South
Korea, Japan, Canada, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Switzerland, Rwanda, Uganda, Namibia
and Morocco.
Also, those who arrive in the country past curfew hours will
be allowed to proceed to their destinations provided they have a valid ticket
and a valid boarding pass.
Their drivers will also be allowed to produce proof that
they are from the airport.
Similarly, those whose flights will leave past curfew hours
will be allowed to proceed to the airport provided they show valid documents.
This comes as the country announced 788 cases from 5521
samples that were tested in the past 24hours.
Out of the 788 cases, 475 are male while 313 are female.
On a positive note, there were 100 new recoveries, taking the national tally to 8121 but 14 deaths were also reported.
