Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on Friday dismissed claims that
he had tested positive for Coronavirus.
Speaking during an interview at his Harambee House office,
CS Matiang’i said he had taken three tests that had all turned negative.
He acknowledged that the level of exposure of leaders is
higher due to numerous interactions but he is in perfect shape.
“If I was sick of COVID-19 I will be the first to go public
with it because there is nothing to hide. I have been tested three times
because our level of exposure is high because of high interactions.
“I am not made of metal, neither are my colleagues. We are human
beings who get sick all the time because we are not heavenly. We go to hospital
all the time…” he said.
Matiang’i, however, stated that the rumours had subjected
his family to distress and police are already looking for the source of the
malicious allegations.
“I feel for my family. My innocent wife and children who
have their own lives to live but they have to endure this kind of rumours. They
are private citizens who have to pay a heavy price because one of them is in
public service.
“I have told the DCI and the Inspector General of Police and
they are trying to investigate. We hope that we shall get to the bottom of the
situation,” he said.
Earlier on Friday, Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna revealed
that he had tested positive for Coronavirus.
Through a statement to newsrooms, Oguna said he recently
developed mild symptoms after an assignment out of town and he later tested
positive.
He, however, stated that he is responding well to treatment
and is currently is self-isolation.
“Recently, having come from an assignment out of town, I
developed mild coronavirus related symptoms and got tested.
“The results came back positive for Coronavirus and I am now
receiving medical care and responding well to treatment at an isolation and
treatment facility.
“I urge all Kenyans to take this disease seriously and take all the necessary precautions to avoid getting infected,” read a statement to newsrooms.
