A
15-year-old boy was arrested and detained at the Maragua Police Station,
Murang’a county in connection to the murder of a nine-year-old girl.
The
incident, in which the girl’s body was stashed in a bag and buried in a shallow
grave, has left several villagers shocked.
According
to Nation, police who arrested the boy believe he strangled the nine-year-old girl to death.
The
Directorate of Criminal Investigation boss in Murang’a Judy Muthini, says the
father’s victim, John Chege, reported the incident on Sunday.
Mr Chege
says her daughter was last spotted with the suspect at the farm picking
avocados. One hour later, the suspect went to the girl’s house to deliver the
avocados and told the father that her daughter had gone missing.
When Mr
Chege went looking for her daughter, he stumbled upon a freshly dug pit and her
daughter’s body buried in a bag.
“The body
was found at around 10 am half-buried in a pit measuring two by three feet in
the boy’s family land,” said the Murang’a DCI boss.
The DCI detectives, who believe the murder was premeditated, are currently investigating to establish the motive behind the incident.
The detectives also
want to uncover if an adult was involved in the murder and disposal of the
girl’s body which took one hour.
A
post-mortem revealed the girl died due to lack of oxygen in the brain caused by
manual strangulation.
