A woman is receiving treatment at the Embu Level Five Hospital after a senior Directorate of Criminal Investigation officer based in Manyatta Police Station allegedly raped her inside his office.

The woman had been arrested on Saturday for allegedly obtaining money by false pretense and was placed in a police cell.

In a statement she recorded with police, the woman claims that the DCI officer took her to his office for questioning where he proceeded to force himself on her.

After the ordeal, police released her on a free bond on Sunday and she later reported about the sexual assault at the same police station.

Embu County Police Commander Daniel Rukunga confirmed the woman had reported the rape case and was escorted to the hospital for treatment.

Rukunga said the Embu North police commander was informed about the incident and she ordered the necessary action to be taken. He said officers had visited the scene of crime and documented it while the county criminal investigations officer was dealing with the case.

“Both the complainant and the suspect have recorded statements. We are waiting for a doctor’s report so that with the P3 form we can arrest the suspect and charge him,” said Rukunga.

A reliable source later informed that the suspect was arrested and taken to a Nairobi police station where he is being detained awaiting prosecution.

The source said the suspect has similar such cases which will be consolidated.

The source claimed that the suspect had tried to bribe the woman with Sh100,000 to buy her silence but she declined it.

Further, it is alleged the suspect who previously worked in Isiolo is a close relative of a senior government officer from Embu County.

Embu nominated MCA Margaret Kariuki condemned the incident and called on the investigative and judicial system to ensure no cover up so that the woman finds justice.
