Broke Tharaka Nithi man craving meat turns dog carcass into stew

A man from Mbironi village, Tharaka Nithi County has left villagers in shock after he turned a dog's carcass into a stew.

To earn himself some little money as well, Mwirigi Kang'ori said he sold some of the carcass to unsuspecting locals as goat meat.

He said he had gone for long without meat, citing financial challenges occasioned by Covid-19 pandemic. "I do casual work at construction sites, but currently the jobs are hard to come by," Kang'ori lamented.

Michael Mwirigi, the dog's owner, said he killed the animal after it attacked and ate his chicken. "I was surprised to hear that after I killed and threw it away, someone went and slaughtered it for meat," said Mr Mwirigi.

Village elder told

He reported the matter to village elder Anderson Marangu, who visited the place where the dog had been disposed of, only to find its skin and intestines.

Apart from associating the oddity to the effects of the ongoing pandemic, Marangu partly blamed it on illicit brew business and liberal bhang smoking in the village.

He added that Mr Kang'ori vanished, fearing arrest after he realised the matter had been taken up by authorities.

Oddly, some of those who ate the meat claimed it tasted just like a goat's. Others immediately visited hospitals for checkup for fear of contracting strange diseases. "He took the meat to the drinking dens and shared with unsuspecting drunks," said Mr Marangu.

This is the second similar incident in the area, after another one was reported in Mitheru, in November last year.
