Recently, there emerged a shocking act whereby some inhumane Kenyans were reportedly recycling used masks, and selling them to unsuspecting buyers.
The recycled masks were said to be collected from Mbagathi Hospital dumpsite. However, the said hospital has denied the claims.
Mbagathi Hospital management chair Dr. Osewe George stated that the facility burns all its waste. Dr. Osewe spoke after several social media posts drag Mbagathi hospital into the menace.
In one of the shocking videos, a man can be seen washing used masks and letting them dry. Although, sources could not establish exactly where the used masks originated from.
"We as the hospital management and board members wish to categorically state that all used masks of the hospital are incinerated in the hospital incinerator," read Dr. Osewe's statement.
The hospital management stated that investigations had been launched over the claim. Dr. Osewe stated that the management was so keen on the welfare of its patients.
Dr. Osewe stated that the hospital also prioritized everyone's safety, and such an action was highly regrettable a time like now when the entire world was reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Face masks demand shot up recently after it was officially announced that all must wear masks in public. Masks have been adopted as one way of preventing the pandemic spread.
Health Ministry has now called upon the public to safely dispose of their used masks. The ministry asked the public to ensure that they either destroy the already masks with fire. If not so, one must tear used masks to avoid them being recycled.
