The Council of Governors (CoG) will intervene to have Vihiga County staff paid their delayed March salary.

Council chairperson and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said he had received complaints from county union officials over nonpayment of March pay.

The governor said he had met with Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani in Nairobi last week over the matter, who assured him that Treasury will release money to the county for payment of workers’ salaries.

“I want to assure Vihiga staff that they will soon get their salaries. Treasury will soon release money meant for the county,” Mr Oparanyaa told journalists yesterday.

Last week, MPs from the county led by Senator George Khaniri, Beatrice Adagala, Charles Gimose and Ernest Ogesi raised concerns over the perpetual salary delays for workers in the county leading to poor service delivery.

Health workers in Vihiga had threatened to go on strike later this month over the pay.
