Well-wishers have come to the aid of the needy as the country grapples with effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

In central, NGOs and individuals have been donating foodstuff and sanitary products to residents in rural dwellings as well as those living in informal settlements.

Yesterday, residents of Gititu, Ithekahuno and Tetu areas received foodstuff, sanitisers and masks from Thuku Adonai Foundation.

Vulnerable families were each issued with a bale of maize flour, cooking oil, a dozen of sanitizers and a bar soap as the group members sensitised the locals on the need of regularly washing hands.

The foundation CEO Ephantus Thuku who led the daylong operation called on well-wishers to join in the campaign to ensure those vulnerable members of the society are taken care of during this period.

Separately, Nyeri Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) called on individuals to complement government efforts and to donate food items to address hunger and starvation in rural households.

Chairperson of the volunteers David Munene said they were alarmed at the growing number of households going hungry or living on a meal a day.

This comes as a community based organisation, We are Nyeri, appealed to  volunteers and the business community and youth to provide food, hygiene products and mental health support for locals.
