The British High Commission in Kenya on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, announced that the Duke of Gloucester would be representing the royal family on the former President Daniel Moi’s memorial.
Through their twitter account, the British High Commission said that Prince Richard would be present at the memorial held at the Nyayo Stadium.
“His Royal Highness, the Duke of Gloucester, is representing the Royal Family at today’s Memorial Service for Kenya’s Second President, H.E. Daniel Toroitich arap Moi” said the British High Commission.
They added that Prince Richard is a cousin to Queen Elizabeth, the queen of England.
Jane Mariott, the British Diplomat and high commissioner to Kenya confirmed that the Duke was present at the function.
“With HRH, the Duke of Gloucester, who is representing his cousin, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, at the memorial service”, posted Mariott.
Mariott was among the first people to send her condolences to the family and friends in the wake of the news of the former President’s demise.
“I am saddened to learn of the death of the former President of Kenya, H.E. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi. On behalf of the British Government, I wish to extend my deepest condolences”
“My thoughts are with his family and friends, and the people of Kenya” she condoled.
