Flying squad officers were yesterday deployed to Kayole to search for two guns stolen from police officers shot dead.

The officers who were based at the Obama police post are believed to have been attacked at around 4am, according to details provided by the police.

“One of the officers was shot in the head and his colleague in the neck,” Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo told the Saturday Standard.

Mr Ndolo said five spent cartridges were recovered from the scene and will be subjected to ballistic analysis.

The attackers stole two firearms (an AK47 loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition and a Jericho pistol), mobile phones and other personal items from the slain officers.

Kayole area has been hit by a new wave of crime, and police officers attached to the station have also been linked to crime.

Last month, two police officers attached to the Kayole police station were arrested and charged in court over a Sh6 million robbery incident in Eastleigh.

The officers were caught on camera as they forced themselves into a building where they are said to have robbed two men of the cash.

They had broken out of their area of operation.

One of the suspects was arrested soon after leaving a guest house where the offence was committed while a second officer was traced days later to Ruiru, where he is said to have been hiding.
