The Kiswahili saying ‘Hayawi huwa’ has come to be for Kibra residents as the day they pick their next member of parliament is today.

As of 6:00 am, this morning voters had already started trickling into the different polling stations ready to exercise their civil right.

On the ballot paper are 24 candidates.

The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gazetted 24 candidates among them ODM’s Imran Okoth, Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga and Eliud Owalo of ANC party being the popular candidates.

According to IEBC, Kibra has 118,658 registered voters.

The poll will be overseen by 188 presiding officers and 625 clerks.

Calls for peace in the Kibra by-election

The Elections Observation Group (Elog) and Haki Africa has called on IEBC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to be vigilant and help maintain peace during the Kibra by-election period.

Through its National Coordinator  Mulle Nzau, Elog urged the IEBC and DCI to ensure that anyone engaging in violence and other electoral malpractice should face the law accordingly.
