The Senate has summoned county officials over a case in which an accident victim is alleged to have died at the County Referral Hospital in Mbale after pleading, in vain, for help.

The delegation, led by acting county secretary Philip Gavuna, will appear before the Senate Standing Committee on Health tomorrow.

Annette Kabarika, 22, was involved in an accident at Lunyerere on the Kisumu-Kakamega road and taken to the hospital at 9pm on September 16, where her mother Robai Adisa said they spent 30 hours pleading with medical staff for help in vain.

“At the sitting of the Senate held on September 25, Senator George Khaniri made a statement regarding the death of Ms Kabarika at the Vihiga County Referral Hospital on September 16. The speaker referred the matter to the Senate Standing Committee on Health to investigate and come up with report to the Senate,” the letter that summons county officials reads.

County Referral Hospital Medical Superintendent Vitalis Juma, Health Executive Amos Kutwa and chief officers Arnold Mamadi and Wycliffe Manyulu are some of those expected to appear before the Senate committee.
