A man has been jailed for 20 years by a Murang'a court for killing his father after they disagreed over avocados.
Samuel Kamau, 29, was jailed by High Court Judge Kanyi Kimondo after he pleaded guilty.
Kamau had been charged that on August 6 at Gitura village in Kandara, he killed his father Nyoike Mwaura, 70.
Kamau had been warned by Justice Kimondo about the consequences of pleading guilty.
He maintained his guilty plea, but said he was remorseful and had a young family.
He said he wanted to be granted a chance to reconcile with his family.
The judge, however, said murder is a serious offence that attracts the death penalty, but sentenced Kamau to 20 years.
“The accused must shoulder the full responsibility of his actions owing to the nature of the offence. I find that a custodial sentence is the only just sentence for him,” ruled Kimondo.
