There was drama today in Parliament after singer Akothee showed up in what looked like a mini skirt prompting Parliament security to block her from accessing the premises.
In a video that has since gone viral, the songstress is seen trying to argue with Parliament security before she is escorted to a separate room where, according to our sources who sought anonymity, she was asked to cover herself with a lesso.
The artiste, who was being hosted by nominated MP David Ole Sankok, was later allowed to access Parliament building amid protests from a section of female legislators who were against security personnel’s decision to block the singer.
Not new to controversy
Early this year, the Mombasa based Akothee attracted the attention of public watchdog Ezekiel Mutua of Kenya Films and Classification Board who described her stage performances as obscene.
“We have lost it as a nation. People like Akothee cannot be the role models for our daughters. Music doesn’t have to be dirty to sell. How I wish artisets like Akothee would know how much influence they have on our youth and try to use that influence to produce content that is edifying” Ezekiel Mutua posted on his official twitter handle.
Mutua’s comments later attracted Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris attention as she came out to defend the singer arguing that there was nothing wrong with Akothee’s performance.
