Gideon: BBI work good for our unity

Kanu chairman Gideon Moi has declared support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) expected to recommend constitutional reforms.

Speaking during a meeting with delegates from Garissa County, the Baringo senator said the BBI should be respected as it serves President Uhuru Kenyatta's positive agenda for the country.

“The country has to decide what brings the element of inclusivity and betterment for Kenyans," said Gideon.

The senator also said achieving universal healthcare, which is part of Uhuru's Big Four Agenda, would be a milestone for the President’s administration.

Garissa County Speaker Abass Ibrahim said the county had embraced the handshake between President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“Garissa County is behind the BBI that is going to cater for the needs of not only people in our county but the whole country,” said Mr Ibrahim.

Ibrahim said they were ready to support recommendations of BBI team through proper engagement at the grassroots.

Cabinet secretaries have been directed to ensure their respective ministries implement interventions envisaged in the BBI formed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The speaker also noted that despite National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale’s popularity in the area, Garissa was a Kanu stronghold.

Gideon congratulated the Kanu members for raising the independence party's flag high.

Party Secretary General Nick Salat said Kanu was represented in the county by three MPs and seven Members of the County Assembly.

“We should be closer than ever with the people of Garissa in that they have fully represented Kanu in a major way," said Mr Salat.

Salat said such representation had kept the party alive in the era of devolution.
