The body of a seven-year-old girl was on Saturday afternoon found in a Samburu forest.
Samburu central sub-county commander, Alex Rotich, confirmed the incident saying that the body was transferred to Samburu county referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.
The victim’s relatives explained that the deceased left her home with her sister to look for fruits in the forest on Friday but got lost in the thicket.
“The deceased was with her sister when they went to the nearby forest to look for fruits. She got lost and the other girl came home and informed us but our efforts to search for her on that day and night did not bear fruits, we discovered her the following day,” said one of the relatives Nicholas Lekopien.
Doctors at the Samburu County Referral Hospital have concluded that the deceased succumbed to cold during the night on the day she disappeared after carrying out a postmortem examination.
A medical officer at the hospital, John Kuria said the victim’s body had some bruises but there were no internal injuries.
“The tests further showed that the deceased had a central synosis, we concluded that she died of hypothermia due to weather conditions,” he said.
