County and World Bank to build a mega water project

At least 7,500 people will benefit from a water pan the county administration is rehabilitating with funding from the World Bank.

The 60 million-litre Kwa-Isiki water pan is located in Mbitini Ward, Kitui Rural Constituency.

Launching the project yesterday, Governor Charity Ngilu said nine farm ponds will also be constructed as well as landscaping carried out.

Ngilu said the water pan will help those who have to walk long distances to draw water in rivers, and improve farming.

“This project is of great help to our people who have lacked water for domestic use and for their livestock. As an administration, we are keen on provision of water," Ngilu said.

She also averred that youths will be given jobs as the rehabilitation goes on.

The governor said she would continue engaging other development partners besides the World Bank to get funding for other crucial projects.

She hailed the government for putting up the Kitui County Textile Centre, which she said will improve the lives of the locals.
