Man on the run after defiling five-year-old girl in Likoni

A school bus conductor at Mount Sinai Primary School in Likoni, Kwale county has gone into hiding after allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl.

Parents of the victim and locals accuse the school’s management of obstructing justice by helping the suspect to escape.

“We reported the matter on July 15 and when we went to the school to enforce arrest because the staff at the school colluded with the culprit and helped him to evade arrest,” said the distraught father of the girl.

The school manager Njuguna Wakaba has however denied cover-up reports but declined to state whether he knows the suspect’s whereabouts.

“That matter is with the police and for more information please contact the school principal,” Wakaba said saying he has been away and is yet to be properly briefed on the matter.

According to reports, the minor was defiled at the back of the bus she was riding in back from school on the fateful day.

The victim’s parents told The Standard that they noticed a change in the girl’s movement three days later and upon inquiry, she told them that she was having pain in her private parts.

The victim identified her attacker by name because she uses the bus to and from school daily.

A medical examination at Likoni District Hospital revealed a rupture of the hymen, apparently, caused by some form of external penetration.

The family reported the matter under OB number 27/07/2019 before taking the girl for medical examination.

Likoni Directorate of Criminal Investigation officer Charles Onyango told The Standard that detectives have launched an investigation into the incident.

“The suspect is still at large but all plans are underway to apprehend him. The suspect is well known and we are doing everything to track him down,” said Onyango.

Some reports have indicated the suspect fled to Western Kenya a few days ago and his cellphone has been switched off.
