Mystery persists over murder of Meru speaker’s bodyguard

Conflicting information has emerged over the relation of the woman at the centre of a fatal shooting incident involving two aides of Meru County Speaker Joseph Kaberia.

Sarah Karambu who was the first to raise the alarm following the shooting incident targeting or involving Andrew Nabea and Samuel Munga is reportedly the former’s sister.

She was walking towards the gate after the brother called requesting her to open. Police said before Karambu opened the gate, she heard gunshots outside.

Munga, a bodyguard to the speaker, was shot in the chest. Nabea, the driver, sustained bullet wounds in the left leg. Munga died while receiving treatment while Nabea is still in recovery.

It is, however, emerging that Karambu is Nabea’s sister-in-law. The man was initially married to Karambu’s sister, Irene Mukuba, a former MCA in Meru.

 The marriage did however not work, leading to a separation, though the couple has two children, according to those who know the family.

 Both Karambu and Mukuba were noncommittal when asked about their relations to Nabea.

“If he is my brother-in-law, where is the problem? I am not commenting,” said Karambu who recorded a statement.

Mukuba too, excused herself saying she does not wish to comment on a matter under police investigation.

It is not clear whether the two men, both armed, shot at each other or were shot at. Police said they might have shot at each other after a disagreement, a version Kaberia discounts insisting his aides were attacked by criminals.

Homicide officers have taken over investigations from Kasarani Police Station detectives, a statement confirmed by Nairobi County Investigations Officer Bernard Nyakakwa.
