Naisula Lesuuda against scrapping of Woman Rep seat

Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda (pictured) has opposed a proposal by a section of legislators to do away with the Women Representative seats.

She argued that the position was bespoke just as other elective positions.

“We all have roles that we play, if anything the Woman Rep seat has a sunset period of 20 years. We have just done ten of them and the reason why it was created in our Constitution was to give women an opportunity to show their prowess in leadership,” she said on Tuesday during an event at Ang’ata Rongai village.

She had launched a health centre in the area.

The residents said the new facility would relieve them from the agony they encountered while looking for medical services in the past.

Dorcas Lekamario, a resident said that patents used to trek for several kilometres to a health facility at Suguta Marmar.

She said women in labour used to risk their lives and even babies to services offered by non-trained traditional midwives at home due to long time it took an ambulance to reach them during emergencies.

“We used to suffer in the past walking for several kilometres all the way to Suguta in search of medical services, if you are too sick you could even collapse at while waiting for an ambulance to arrive, this health centre has greatly relieved us,” she said.

The residents asked government to equip the new facility with required medical equipment, drugs and deploy qualified medical staff.
