In recent years, the Kenyan economy has been characterised by great liveliness in terms of entrepreneurship and start-up financing. This has caught investors’ attention and led to the setting up of several business incubation initiatives.

Just recently, the first cohort of 20 start-ups graduated from the e4Impact Incubator, where the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation provides the financing to help these businesses attain scale.

The start-ups incubated were drawn from various sectors, including agri-food, fashion design, green business and renewable energy.

The start-ups obtained access to professional services, like marketing, legal assistance and accounting, and were provided with facilities like office space and Internet connectivity for 12 months.

Additionally, they got international and local coaching and mentoring. Some businesses were paired with Italian companies working in the agriculture and renewable energy sectors to facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices in Kenya.

The e4Impact Incubator recently concluded the selection of a second cohort of entrepreneurs. The start-ups selected were chosen based on the novelty of their idea, their revenue so far, the people behind the idea, and the business’ social and environmental impact.
