Duale tells off Mbadi on Matiang’i ouster remark

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has dismissed allegations that some Jubilee members have hatched a plot to impeach Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

Duale said that even though members have powers and privilege to bring any motion to have a Cabinet secretary removed from office, they must conform to the requirement of the Constitution.

“As the majority leader and the spokesperson of the Jubilee party and the person who is the link between the Executive and the Legislature, there exists no impeachment motion going on any minister, including Matiang’i,” said Duale.

Addressing a news conference in his office yesterday Duale said that Minority Leader John Mbadi made allegations which have not been proven.

On Monday, Mbadi claimed that there were two Jubilee MPs – one from South Rift and another from Murang'a who had been tasked by the "Tanga Tanga" team to collect 88 signatures to initiate removal of Dr Matiang'i from office.

The Garissa Township lawmaker maintained that Jubilee party will not allow any of their members to bring any motion to have a CS or a civil servant removed from office out of political interest and malice.

He said it is laughable that Mbadi is defending Matiang’i yet his party does not have the numbers to support him. Jubilee is the one that has such powers as it commands a majority of members in the House, he said.

“Mbadi should desist from dragging the names of civil servants into the gold scam yet he knows very well they cannot defend themselves,” said Duale.
