The Government has set up sustainable mechanisms for counties to access Green Climate Finance (GCF) to mitigate climate change effects.
Treasury’s Director of Financial and Sectoral Affairs Christopher Osebe said the National Designated Authority was working closely with county governments and respective ministries to ensure all accessed GCF.
Mr Osebe spoke yesterday at a three-day training organised by Treasury in partnership with Panafrican Climate Justice Alliance (Pacja) in Machakos.
Pacja Secretary General Mithika Mwenda said climate shock and stresses due to unpredictable rain patterns could be dealt with if countries planned and researched. Pacja will be sensitising county representatives on opportunities for funds.
“We must move the climate change issue from boardrooms and take it to the people,” said Mithika. Training continues for clusters of counties in Isiolo, Meru, Eldoret, Kisumu and Mombasa till June 5.
