MPs to vet Uhuru's IG pick

President Uhuru Kenyatta nominee for the post of Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai will be interviewed by Parliament today.

The spy chief will be vetted by joint committees of the National Assembly and Senate mandated to deal with matters of national security and detailed report tabled in both Houses next Tuesday.

The joint committee on Administration and National Security of the National Assembly chaired by Kiambaa MP Paul Koinage and Senate National Security, Defiance and Foreign Relations chaired by Senator Yusuf Haji (Garissa) has received memorandum from the public.

The committee is also expected to receive the nominees report from National Intelligence Service and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

“We will be vetting the nominee on Thursday at 10am. The venue for the interview will be at County Hall,” said Nairobi Senator Johnsone Sakaja.

The clerks of both Houses, Michael Sialai (National Assembly) and Jeremiah Nyegenye (Senate), put up a joint advertisement in local dailies informing the public to present their views to the committee and attend the vetting.

Speakers Justin Muturi (National Assembly) and Ken Lusaka (Senate) made official communication to their respective Houses last week.
