A bountiful Sonko leads distribution of relief food in West Pokot

Governor Mike Sonko distributing relief food to hunger stricken victims in West Pokot County.

Trucks loaded with food stuffs arrived at Nasukuta village in West Pokot County awakening the sleepy hungry victims on the sunny Saturday afternoon as each resident hoped for a bite.

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko arrived in the dusty Nasukuta village on Saturday to distribute food stuff to hunger stricken families as he wowed the locals with the goodies.

Known for his philanthropic work, governor Sonko took it upon himself to supply food to the residents of Pokot South constituency following the ravaging hunger that has hit the region.

In full six lorries branded “Sonko rescue team” the team received a heroic welcome in the remote part of West Pokot county, as locals could not hide their joy after getting an assurance of food stuff that could push them for a month.

The hungry lot chanted songs of joy as governor Sonko offloaded the food stuffs from the lorries.

The most vulnerable group were not left behind as they got their share of maize and wheat flour, milk, cooking oil, rice and other food substances.

Accompanied by the area MP David Pkosing, former Mavoko MP  Kalembe Ndile, a section  of MCAs  from both  Nairobi and West Pokot county and other leaders the team jointly dispersed food to every member present. 

Speaking while distributing the food stuff, Sonko said he was touched by the suffering of hunger stricken victims in the country and decided to give out his personal donations to the most affected.

He promised to continue offering support to the needy and vulnerable in the society until the onset of rains in the area.

 “I call upon other leaders to also do something and help alleviate hunger. The state has offered Sh2b to drought affected counties and am sure President Uhuru Kenyatta will come up with a long term solution to end perennial hunger,” he said.

He noted that he is not driven by politics or after soliciting votes from locals but has a human heart of helping the victims.

“I have a history in standing in the gap of the poor that is why God elevated me to be the governor and the good deeds Africa ambassador. Let’s not allow hunger to split us as Kenyans,” he said.

Pokot south MP Pkosing said that the county is among the 17 affected by hunger and governor Sonko’s donation should not be politicized.

“This is historic to West Pokot county government. We appreciate the jubilee government for taking care of us but the humanity in Sonko’s heart has challenged me,” he said.
